FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SINGLE TICKETS FOR ALL OREGON SYMPHONY CONCERTS
GO ON SALE MONDAY, AUGUST 21

Portland, Ore. … The general public will have its first opportunity to purchase single tickets to all Oregon Symphony concerts when they go on sale at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 21.  “We expect all three nights of our opening Classical concert to sell out,” said Michael Kosmala, Vice President of Marketing and Community Engagement.  Featured pianist Garrick Ohlsson will be performing Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto on Sept. 16-18.

Beginning this season, Symphony patrons can take advantage of the Symphony’s newly expanded Web site to purchase their tickets online directly from the Symphony.  “With this new service, we think our patrons will find it easier and more convenient to do all their business with us, from getting information about concerts and ticket prices to ticket purchases,” said Kosmala.

Before Aug. 21, subscribers can buy tickets for all Symphony performances at discounted prices available only to subscribers, including special concerts such as Garrison Keillor, who will perform with the Symphony on Sept. 8 and 9 and “Election Night with The Capitol Steps” on Nov. 7, as well as the Holiday Baroque concerts on Dec. 2, 3 and 4.

“Itzhak Perlman’s Symphony conducting debut on Feb. 3, 4 and 5, 2007, will likely sell out within days of Aug. 21,” said Kosmala.

Other potential hot-selling Classical concerts include the return of Laureate Music Director James DePreist conducting an all-Russian program, featuring Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, on March 10, 11 and 12, 2007; an all-Mozart evening with Mozart-style piano improvisations by pianist Robert Levin, on Oct. 21, 22 and 23; and the “Not Quite Classical” concert on Feb. 17 and 18, 2007, featuring Gershwin’s “An American in Paris.”

The most anticipated concerts of the Symphony’s Pops series include the ’70s and ’80s trio The Pointer Sisters, who will kick off the series on Oct. 7, 8 and 9 with the hits that made them pop music legends, including “I’m So Excited” and “Jump For My Love.”

“1964—The Tribute,” on March 17, 18 and 19, 2007 will recreate an early ’60s Beatles show, complete with period hair, dress and instruments, and features signature hits, including “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” and “She Loves You.”

The first concert of the Symphony’s new series, Inside the Score, featuring Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition,” on Nov. 5, as well as Gospel Christmas on Dec. 8, 9 and 10, and the always-popular Yuletide Spectacular concerts on Dec. 16, 17 and 18, are also expected to sell quickly, Kosmala added.  “To insure ticket availability and good seats, anyone interested in attending Symphony concerts during the 2006-07 season should purchase a series subscription now.  Our strong ticket sales last season suggest we will match if not exceed last year’s goals.”

Subscribers to one of the Symphony’s various concert series, including Classical, Pops, Inside the Score and Kids Concerts have exclusive access to all Symphony concert tickets before they are made available to non-subscribers.  Single tickets for the Symphony’s first two Classical and opening Pops concerts of the
2006-07 season have been on sale since July 31.

While subscribers receive substantial savings and also enjoy the convenience of flexible ticket exchange and first choice of available seating, those wishing to buy single tickets for groups of eight or more can also receive discounts to most concerts this season.  The Symphony’s ticket representatives are available to help single ticket buyers plan their group events for family, friends or business associates.
