'Hilarious' Bassoon Brothers to Perform Latest Hits and Audience Favorites at CD Release Party
Portland, Ore. … Portland's famous Bassoon Brothers, the only
bassoon quartet known for resembling the Blues Brothers and for performing
consistently sold-out programs, will hold their highly anticipated
CD release party with performances from their newest album, "Captured,"
as well as past audience favorites from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday,
June 12, at BridgePort Brewing Company (1313 N.W. Marshall St., Portland).

Carlos Kalmar Named Music Director Orchestra, board approve search committee recommendation by overwhelming
majority;
Vienna’s Kalmar to assume music director position in 2003-2004
Portland, Ore.… Carlos Kalmar, the internationally acclaimed
Music Director of Vienna’s Tonkünstlerorchester and Principal
Conductor of Chicago’s Grant Park Music Festival, has been named
the next Music Director of the Oregon Symphony, Board Chair-Elect
Sue Keil announced today. Kalmar, who received rave reviews from the
orchestra, the audience and the media during conducting appearances
in October and February, was recommended by the Music Director Search
Committee Wednesday and approved by an overwhelming majority of the
orchestra and the Symphony’s board of directors today.

Portland, Ore. … Holly Kellar, most recently the Director
of Marketing and Communications for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra,
will join the Oregon Symphony as Director of Marketing for Season
Development on May 15, Symphony Vice President of Marketing and Development

Doc Severinsen to Perform First Portland Concert Featuring His
Big Band at Oregon Symphony Rose Festival Concert
Portland, Ore. … The famed jazz trumpeter known for his 30 years
as bandleader of "The Tonight Show," Doc Severinsen, will
bring his Grammy-winning 16-piece Big Band to Portland for the first
time at the Oregon Symphony Rose Festival concert June 8 and 9 at

Murry Sidlin Named Dean of School of Music for the Catholic University
of America; Resigns as Resident Conductor but Continues Nerve Endings
Portland, Ore. .. Murry Sidlin, resident conductor of the Oregon
Symphony since 1994, has been appointed the dean of Washington D.C.’s
prestigious Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at The Catholic University
of America, he announced today.

Thanksgiving Weekend Concert to Feature Baroque Favorites
Portland, Ore. … Vivaldi's "Four Seasons," four
incredible "sound-pictures" illustrating Spring, Summer,
Autumn and Winter, will provide the centerpiece to an evening of Baroque
music by candlelight Thanksgiving weekend when the Oregon Symphony

$75,000 Grant From Spirit Mountain Community Fund Supports Oregon

a $75,000 grant to the Oregon Symphony in support of its education
