The Oregon Symphony In January:
Five Hot Concerts For The Coldest Month Of The Year
The Oregon Symphony aims to take the chill out of Portland’s atmosphere in January with a series of performances designed to heat up the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall stage. Starting with an appearance by the red-hot bluegrass band Cherryholmes – two-time nominees for 2009 Grammy awards – the month’s concerts also include an in-depth exploration of Franz Schubert’s most popular symphony, a double-concerto performance by the reigning master of the double bass and a celebration of a century’s worth of Broadway show-stoppers. Principal Bassoonist, Trumpeter Join The Oregon Symphony
The Oregon Symphony has hired two new orchestra members – a new principal bassoonist and a third trumpeter – as a result of competitive auditions held in September and October.

'Tis The Season For All Manner Of Holiday Music
The Oregon Symphony will deck the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in December with four concert programs that are sure to put even the Scroogiest Portlander in the mood to celebrate. The month’s calendar includes an all-Tchaikovsky Classical concert that features the best-of-the-best holiday music from the Nutcracker; the 10th anniversary of a not-to-be-missed Portland tradition, Gospel Christmas; the Oregon homecoming of the internationally known jazz trumpeter Chris Botti; and a special concert just for kids that celebrates all of the month’s holidays at once. All Classical FM To Premiere New Show, 'The Conductor,' Hosted By Music Director Carlos Kalmar
Oregon Symphony Music Director Carlos Kalmar will take an in-depth look at the best – and best-known – conductors of the past century and explore exactly what makes a conductor great in a new monthly radio program, “The Conductor,” to be broadcast the first Sunday of each month, starting Nov. 2, on the stations of All Classical FM, the non-profit 24-hour classical music station serving Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Oregon Symphony, Musicians Union Agree On New Two-Year Contract
Oregon Symphony musicians have voted to approve a new two-year contract that covers the orchestra's 2008/09 and 2009/10 concert seasons and increases musician compensation in both years.

The Oregon Symphony opens its 113th season in September with seven performances at downtown Portland’s Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, including an unforgettable start to its Classical series season Sept. 27-29, when Music Director Carlos Kalmar leads three performances of the work that always finishes atop audience-favorite lists of the greatest classical masterpieces of all time: Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.
